Last week, I announced that WHEN THE HERO COMES HOME is a finalist for ForeWord Book of the Year. This week starts with even more good news.
Congratulations to VILLAIN contributor Rachel Swirsky for her Hugo nomination AND Nebula nomination for the novelette “Fields of Gold” from ECLIPSE 4, edited by Jonathan Strahan for Night Shade Books. You can read the story at Tor.com.
Congratulations to HERO and VILLAIN contributor Jim C. Hines for his Hugo nomination in the Fan Writer category. Jim is an excellent pro writer, but he is also a wonderful resource for the SF/F community, via his blog at JimCHines.com. Rather than list out the posts of particular genius, helpfulness, and relevance to writers and the SF/F community at large, I’ll point you to this post which has already done so, and just add Striking a Pose to the list — Jim’s experiment in which he posed himself (or, tried to) in the impossible poses women are often given on book covers, quickly went viral. Also essential reading: Writing About Rape, a guest post at Apex Magazine.
Congratulations to HERO and VILLAIN contributor J.M. Frey for TRIPTYCH’s double nomination for the Lambda Literary Award, in the Science Fiction and Bisexual Fiction categories. TRIPTYCH was first described to me as an “unpublishable manuscript.” I didn’t agree with that assessment, and I’m thrilled to see that Publishers Weekly, Lambda Literary, and plenty more readers and reviewers have been as touched by it, and have had as much faith in it, as I have.
Congratulations also to HERO and VILLAIN contributor Marie Bilodeau, whose novel DESTINY’S FALL is also debuting at Ad Astra. Look for me at Leah and Marie’s book launch party, at panels, and at the Dragon Moon Press table.
